Packaging 102

We are eager to make your brand shine—1 beautiful package at a time! But before your cannabis hits  the retail shelves, we’d like to take advantage of what we’ve learned over the years! Many of the common missteps that are made really don’t have to happen. Below are some considerations that we know are important.

Go Green, but do so responsibly.

Yes, the entire world wants your brand to be delivered in an
environmentally friendly package. And of course, we have many options for your brand. The marketplace is filled with green solutions, but not all are created equally or even provide the
same environmental benefit.

Consider who is you customer.

The nature of dispensary sales is lead by the people who have to open, handle, store, and inventory your cannabis—the Budtenders and the people who support them. Your packaging should look amazing, but it should also be easy to store, handle, and inventory. So we advise our clients to consider both the end-user and the people who will be advising people on what brand to purchase.

Fulfillment issues are real.

Packaging your cannabis products takes time and considering the
average quantity purchased by the average dispensary shopper, you’ll be filling many, many packages (tins, bags, jars, etc.) with each harvest. With those kinds of numbers, even a tiny extra step can cost you time, money, and aggravation. Easy to avoid and doing so is worth some planning.

Labeling is required by law.

Despite the reality that the vast majority of people will never read or understand the contents of your batch label, it will be on nearly everything you produce, so we’d suggest that you plan your packaging to accommodate. All too often required labels are an afterthought and integrating them to seal package comes at the expense of your carefully created art. In short, we’ll spend a little extra time to make sure that your package was planned for the required labels.

Use a packaging specialist to create your graphic design.

Only someone who has never done graphic art creation for packaging would “give it a shot”. It’s a totally different discipline with a degree of precision and planning required that other mediums simply don’t require. Trust us, it can be the difference between your harvest being a great success vs. a packaging nightmare.

Order from domestic suppliers as much as possible

And when you can’t, intelligently stock up to avoid future calamities. While no one likes to revisit our chain supply concerns, we all know that they are real and impact nearly everything we do. So, we need to factor them in when planning. When possible, stay local and when you can’t, plan accordingly.

Consider multi-use solutions.

Can you save thousands each month while reducing your risk of having to “rush order” a packaging solution? Yes, you probably can and we are happy to help with that planning!

Be Compliant and Be Beautiful.

All too often beautifully designed brands get “labeled to death” and end up looking more like prescription medicine jars than a tin full of pain relief or a bag full of fun. This doesn’t have to happen. Your brand can be both beautiful and compliant. And we are happy to help you achieve this!
CannaBrand brings you additional resources, experience and planning—all while saving you time and money! Leveraging our experience and resources will make your harvest and packaging time more successful and dare we say even a pleasant experience!
